over and back

Carl has been gone on a golf trip in Montana. I decided to throw the kids in the car and drive over to hang with my family in Olympia. The timing was perfect because it turned out to be the nicest day of the year so far.

The marina was gorgeous.

Oh Ian. As the only grandson among 6 granddaughters, I guess you do have to be a little goofy.

Uncle Alex got a workout.

Ian found his own special way of going in and out. It suits him because he is kind of a puppy.

Doggy door

It's always an adventure traveling with 4 kids by yourself... but as far as spur-of-the-moment road trips go- this little "over and back" was perfect!!

We managed to pack a lot in to our 3 days away. But the highlight?

Meeting up with Mery and Co. at the park. We had horrible weather for most of the trip. Our time at the park was the only little break in the rain. Mery hooked us up with some sunshine. Just perfect.

Hobbs was missing out on all the action- just snoozing away in the stroller. I had to peek at him like 5000 times! I couldn't help myself. Yum yum.

(I took my new camera out of the box- and yes, I'm keeping it :)

The city was fun...we did a little shopping, ate some good food (I had a fig and gorgonzola pizza!!!!), and throughouly enjoyed having someone else make our beds each day! But, navigating an unfamiliar city with 4 kids in tow requires an imense amount of energy.

This country mouse was glad to be headed in the direction towards home.

I didn't stay there long though! There was an impromptu night out with some girls- this time in my neck of the woods.

We also celebrated birthday #80 for Carl's grandma. His family sure knows how to throw a party. Pictures with Elvis coming soon!!

What a whirlwind. It's all a bit of a blur. My cheeks are sore from so much smiling.

Carl had to go back for a few days. I like waking up very early when he's gone. (Like "east coast time" early.) After a busy few days it's nice to have a little time to myself. A girl has to take care of herself that way you know? I think I'm just going to spend the day in my pjs and bake some banana bread or something. I won't put nuts in it. I know you don't like them.

re-cap

Here's what we can pack into a weekend:

A 6th birthday. (Laurel would like you to notice the sparkly pink things in her ears. She's been waiting for what feels like forever for this birthday. The birthday when mom says it's okay to get your ears pierced.) She had a great day filled with Toys R Us shopping, face painting, a movie, dinner out with the family, and a humongous chocolate cake. How cool would it be to have your birthday on March 17th?

Some cousin play time. Audrey and Ian.

Some amazing Thai food, probably the best I've ever had.

A 6:00am gym date followed by Starbucks (and uninterrupted conversation) with my dad.

An appointment with the Geniuses at The Genius Bar who (thankfully) gave my laptop CPR when it stopped breathing after a firmware update. Whew! Close call.

Oh, and this.

At dinner with the girls

Yes, we are older...but I think we are better than ever.

Libby and demeri

So much fun! Pretty great to catch up with these girls.

At the royal

I even came home with a few extra bags:

Grumpy drive home

Which made me extremely grumpy...

We finally found ourselves back under this blue sky again.

*Sigh* How much better can it get?
